Does My Car Qualify? answers one question quickly: does my car pass the vehicle tests for the 2025–2028 car loan interest deduction? The IRS tells people to check where a car was built with NHTSA's VIN decoder. That decoder returns about 150 raw fields and no answer. This site reads the three fields that matter, applies the rules, and says yes, no, or what to check on the car.

Where the rules come from

Every rule is quoted from the final regulations (T.D. 10054, 26 CFR §1.163-16, published 8 September 2026) or the Internal Revenue Code, with the section number and the date we checked it. We re-check the sources when the IRS publishes new guidance or yearly amounts, and the date at the bottom of every page changes when we do. Each rule is tested against the worked examples printed in the regulations.

What it is not

It is not tax advice, and it is not affiliated with the IRS, the Treasury or NHTSA. It gives an estimate. Your tax preparer, or the IRS, gives the binding answer for your return.
